My ethnic and racial background is pretty damn mixed, from Chilean to Sephardi Jew to Welsh to Native American, and just about everything in between. In theory, I could check about any box under race, but in reality (look at my pictures), I check “White.” The name Hector has had its ups and downs, I know I got scholarships because of it, but I also know I was turned down for jobs. And then of course, when a girl talks about me to her family…
Some time back, I went with my then GF to her parent’s house for a party. While talking to her mom, thinking her mom was introduced to me already, she says “Hector and I have been dating for a few months…”
“Hector! You’re dating a ‘Hector?!’ I’m not racist but how could you do that?!” I was right next to them.

Until I met you, I had no idea the name Hector meant anything. Sounds white to me. Of course, this is coming from a Renelle, which usually got me mistaken for being black. Hell yeah for scholarships tho, amirite? Merry Christmas!!
